Easy ski tour: Vallaccia
NB: The easy ski tour trips are also potential walks, depending on conditions. In case of high snow they are walk-able in snow shoes.
Technical Difficulty: easy passing on the main track, a bit harder if taking detours on the left hand side of the Monzoni valley
Fitness required: average, but more than the previous easy ski tours described on the website
Height gain: 800m or more
Avalanche risk: free in the lower part, low but existing from exiting the wood up to the Vallaccia hut. It is decently easy to assess the situation though
Time required: a day unless you are a professional in training (we met some of them at the hut and it took them 45 minutes!!!)
Access: From Pozza di Fassa (15min drive down the valley) take directions towards the Aloch ski run and Buffaure ski resort. Pass the cable car and the road will end soon, leaving the start of the downhill pist and different paths. Climb up always keeping the right hand side, you should enter val Monzoni, pass the Rifugio Monzoni (here say hallo to Nello, the hut owner and a crazy man that cooks awesome food) and higher up the Malga Monzoni (here they make cows’ cheese); continue climbing up the valley (easier on the right but more beautiful on the left) until when you will see the Vallaccia hut on the right side of the valley.
What’s next: if conditions allow, it is possible to continue after the hut. Climbing the right hand side you will get to the basis of the rock faces of the Monzoni, where there is a hard via ferrata and a bivouc. Climbing the other side of the valley (front facing the Vallaccia hut) would have taken you to a pass, which leads to the passo San Pellegrino ski resort; usually this is skied the opposite way round, but bare in mind that the avalanche risk up there is pretty high so make sure you know what you are doing!
