Easy ski tour: Val San Nicolo’
NB: The easy ski tour trips are also potential walks, depending on conditions. In case of high snow they are walk-able in snow shoes.
Technical Difficulty: very easy
Fitness required: minimum – it can be done with ski or walk or moto-sledge
Height gain: 300m or slightly more
Avalanche risk: completely free
Time required: half day unless you stop for sunbathing and lunch in the hut
Access: From Pozza di Fassa (15min drive down the valley) take directions towards Aloch night ski run and Buffaure resort. Pass the cable car and the road will end soon, leaving the start of the downhill pist and different paths. Keep always left and follow signs for Val S. Nicolo’.
What’s next: if conditions allow, it is possible to continue after the hut, reaching a icefall (easy to climb). Continuing, you could get on the steep climb at the end of the valley and this will take you on the back of the Marmolada South face, from which you can ski down either to Alba (through Val Contrin) or to Malga Ciapela. There are other alternatives which are considered low avalanche risk, which is climbing on the right of the valley and descending in Val Monzoni.
